Technical Sergeant Mark Nixon is one of two trumpet players with the Alaska Brass Quintet. He arrived at the PACAF Band in August 2011, after serving more than 9 years with the Heritage of America Band at Langley AFB, VA. At Langley AFB, he performed principal trumpet with the Concert Band and Brass Quintet as well as performing with the jazz and ceremonial band.
Sergeant Nixon studied trumpet at Bowling Green State University with Todd Davidson, George Novak and Dr. Joel Treybig. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in 1999 and a Master of Music degree in 2001 both from BGSU.
Prior to joining the active duty Air Force, TSgt Nixon served in the Ohio National Guard and was assigned to the ANG band of the Great Lakes (formerly the 555th) in Swanton, Ohio. In July 2001 TSgt Nixon was reassigned to active duty with the Heritage of America Band at Langley AFB, Virginia.
The professional credits of Sergeant Nixon include performances with the Lima Symphony (Ohio), Richmond Symphony, Virginia Symphony and the Anchorage Symphony. While at Langley AFB, he was frequently a featured soloist with the Heritage of America Band.
Sergeant Nixon's military awards and decorations include the Air Force Commendation medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service medal.
